Happy Memorial Day!

It's a little bit weird celebrating Memorial Day in Canada. Canadians celebrate this holiday in July, so it's business as usual here in Toronto today. (The "welcome summer" holiday here is Victoria Day, celebrated last Monday :))

I can't start this post, though, without expressing extreme gratitude to the brave men and women of our armed forces, past and present.

You, strong men and women, devote your lives to the well-being of those in your country. For this, and everything else you do, I am forever grateful and in your debt. Thank you for your kind and brave heart :).

As for the nail art, Memorial Day weekend is also synonymous with summer, sunshine, and a few backyard sparklers. So why not go with a little sparkle on my nails to celebrate? :)

I used my all-time favorite pink glitter, OPI's Teenage Dream, and coordinated a matching pink with OPI's Lucky Lucky Lavender.

This nail art is simple - alternating between a solid and a glitter nail on all 10 fingers. I love that a solid glitter nail can have the same eye-catching appeal as more detailed nail art :).

I topped off the solid nails with a small pink gem. I attached the gem by first placing a small dot of top coat on my (completely dry!) painted nail.

I then picked up the gem with a toothpick and placed it on that clear-coat dot, using the toothpick to place and position the gem. I sealed in both the gem and the polish with a coat of top coat over both.

Easy peasy and beautifully festive!

As for the polish themselves, Teenage Dream is now a cult classic and rightfully so! This shade is a stunner and applies beautifully.

I wish I could tell you where to buy it but I just saw it selling on eBay for double (even triple!) what I paid back in 2010. Ugh. Thankfully, after a quick google search, a few different blogs and forums pointed to this dupe for the same effect :).

On me, Lucky Lucky Lavender pulls way more mauve than it does lavender. I really don't care though - this shade is simply beautiful! If you don't already have a light purple-y pink shade then scoop this one up. It's a full on winner.
