Tori's Pretty Life - "With a porch light, screen door banner from Niagara Falls"

We finally did it.

After six months of Canadian living, we finally crossed Niagara Falls off our Canada bucket list. (Cue the confetti!!!)

Last weekend, we were so thoughtfully invited to a post-wedding brunch for B's cousin. Since the brunch was about an 8-hour drive away, we figured we'd make a short detour and stop at the Falls.

I'm going to get real-life real for a minute.

Yes, everything looks picture perfect on the 'Gram or in these lovely blog posts.

Have you noticed, though, that we've been go-go-go lately? B and I had so much fun in May but we are so tired.

So when we woke up that morning, in our over-tired, hangry, fighting just to fight haze (because I know you've been there, too!), we seriously contemplated skipping this.

But thanks to a quick trip to good ole Tim Horton's and a 20-second "I'm sorry for the things I said when I was hungry" hug, we decided to go.

And I am SO happy we didn't let our tiredness get the best of us. Would you just look at how beautiful the Falls are?!

We really didn't spend a ton of time here.

Neither of us felt like donning a poncho and getting our feet wet (literally) to ride the Maid of the Mist. It really didn't sound like a good time spending the next six hours of our car ride in wet clothes... (Plus, how could we ever decide between taking the US or Canadian boat!?).

So overall we spent about an hour enjoying the beautiful view, strolling the lookout points, and take a few snaps before driving on :).

Do you want to know the first thing that crossed my mind when I saw the Falls in person, though?

"Why on earth would anyone look at this rushing water and think, 'Golly, I'd love to roll down that gushing water in a barrel!'"

Are the Rumors True?

Now, let's address the age-old rumor. Is the Canadian side reallyyy better than the New York side?

Just from the limited time we spent at both? Definitely.

On the Canadian side, we passed a cute little lot of casinos, restaurants, and tourist attractions. (Even though, neither of us could figure out how an exotic bird attraction really fit in...)

When we drove through the New York side, it just seemed... a little sad in comparison.

So I would recommend bringing your passport and taking that walk or drive across the bridge. I promise Canadians don't bite! :)

The Hidden Gem:

When we were about 15 minutes away on our way to the Falls, we noticed a big cliff to our left. It looked really cool so, of course, we had to pull over and check it out.

Turns out it was this lovely hidden gem (or at least hidden to us!) - The Niagara Whirlpool.

Did you know about this?!

There's this very old, but well kept, cable car (literally built in 1916) that you can ride to see this true, natural whirlpool that forms as a direct result from the Niagara current. How beautiful (and a little scary!)

We only spent a few minutes here because 1. we didn't know what we were looking at for a good while but 2. we wanted to spend most of our time at the Falls.

This is definitely at the top of the list to spend more time at, and maybe even ride the Aerocar, for our next visit though. It was so cool!

What Else?

As for the rest of the weekend? Well, the brunch was lovely!

It was wonderful spending time with some of B's family and totally worth the long drive.

Then, we also finally checked off a major relationship milestone - Our parents met for the first time! (Of course, it only took the two of us 4 and 1/2 years to make it happen...whoops!)

We've been talking about getting engaged this year, so we figured it was time enough for them to meet lol.

My parents drove up from New Jersey (my old stomping grounds) to meet us for a dinner in Westchester County. I am happy to share it was a success!

All in all, it was a lovely little getaway weekend to wrap up the spring season :).
