In a tale of two countries, which one does a gal choose?

Do I paint a red mani in celebration of my first Canada Day?

Do I paint the traditional red, white, and blue as a reminder of my American patriotism?

Or do I say screw it, be my ever-diplomatic self, and wear all three in the most neutral way possible so I don't offend anyone?

I'm pretty positive you can tell from this post what choice I made :).

We're just a day away from the 4th of July, so today's pretty nails are here for a little subtle patriotic inspiration.

Gosh, I love a nautical mani!

There's just something about an anchor that gives me all of those summertime vibes. (If this and this didn't already make that obvious, though...)

The great part about nautical nail art is that you cover your patriotic bases with the red, white and blue. Yet, it still works way past the holiday and you can totally choose the way you wear it.

Prefer a Red base and white stripes? Or maybe a blue anchor? Still totally works!

For said anchor, I used my tried and true What's Up Nail vinyls. These anchor vinyls are so good! They work like a charm to give you that detailed look without a crazy amount of work.

For the stripes? Well....that was a bit tougher.

I tried to freehand them but that was just a major fail. So instead I used straight tape vinyls to capture those crisp lines. You could also use scotch tape, so long as your mani underneath is completely dry.

I'm sorry to share that you can't get your hands on First Mate anymore. It's such a shame too because this color is a perfect summertime navy. Zoya's Natty or OPI's Dating a Royal are fine alternatives though :).

Speaking of OPI, if you're in the market for a good, true red then consider OPI's Red Lights Ahead...Where? There's nothing groundbreaking about it in terms of color, but I'm a big fan of this formula and the opacity is spot on.

Essie's Pre-Show Jitters is a beautiful soft white shade but be prepared - she's a 3 coater, maybe even 4, for full opaque coverage. The staying power, though, makes this one worth all of the work! This is my favorite line of polish to wear during a summer vacay.
