Hello!

How are you doing on this lovely, officially first Fall Friday?

I'm over here debating how personal I want to be in this blog.

I find that the bloggers I love are bloggers who really put a lot out there. I feel like I know them - like we're friends. I feel excited for their life wins and sad for this sadness.

Generally, I'm a really private person. Subconsciously, I tend to keep people talking and then don't end up offering very much up unless asked. This skill makes me pretty good at my day job but it also creates this gap in my personal life where I end up feeling pretty alone of my own volition. It's a habit i'm working on improving.

So I'm going to open up a little today because this week was a sad one and a happy one for me all at once.

My childhood best friend passed away this week last year and I really struggled with my feelings most of the week.

She was my best friend from the time we were 8 years old and through the age of 23. We grew apart for quite a few years and started to grow back together 2 years before she passed. I struggle with what could have been if we had more time, and how much life she didn't get to live. I'm not sure that I'm ready to dive deeper than that on the blog at this point, but it was a really hard day.

On the flip side, it was also a very happy weekend because I reconnected with a cousin who I hadn't seen in 20 years! We always lived in different states but now life finds us living only an hour apart. What are the odds, right?

so we reconnected and I am so, so happy about it! We went our for a socially-distanced couples brunch and it was lovely to learn about their life and share about ours.

As a whole, it was a very emotional week. I guess you just never really know what your path will bring, both good and bad.

Which means I'm pretty pumped to share the more fun, frivolous part of my week 😂. So let's jump in to week's recap...

What I Bought

I recently shared a few Fall home decor pieces in the LikeToKnow. It app that I was eye'ing up. I ended up scooping up this, this and this to add to my little fall home decor collection.

Speaking of home decor, B and I really enjoy when the art on our walls reflect places we lived or visited. We really want to commemorate our time in Toronto and this week we finally made a decision. We bought this and it just feels so perfect. I'm so excited to hang this above our bed!

Last Week's Buys - Yay or Nay?

I added The Ordinary products into my daily and nightly skincare routine this week. (More about my skincare struggles here.)

I scooped up thisthisthis, and this and paired them with this cleanser and this AHA/BHA gel. Skin cell turnover takes 30-40 days roughly, so it's a little too early to make a final decision.

I am seeing reduced redness and fewer white heads (I know, gross!) so I'm happy enough with the progress to keep going. I'll keep you updated as the weeks go on!

My Fall polish picks arrived and they are PRETTY! I'm really excited to wear them - especially this and this.

This also arrived. It was kind of banged up so I'm not loving that aspect of it. It serves it's purpose, though, and not one lipstick has fallen into the garbage this week.

So win? lol

Weekly Seasonal Celebrations

I celebrated September by:

Burn a Fall scented candle ✔️
(I'm burning this and it's so nice. It smells exactly as described!)

Weekly wear my September lip shade, Mauve ✔️
(This is my favorite mauve lippie this year.)

Lauren Bacall's Birthday - September 16th ✔️
(I read her biography a couple of years ago and found her fascinating. So I like to remember her birthday each year.)

The first anniversary of a good friend's passing - September 17th ✔️
(I wouldn't call this a celebration by any stretch of the word but I certainly tried to celebrate her life and keep her memory alive.)

Listen to my Fall playlist ✔️

Paint a weekly, seasonal mani ✔️

Drink apple cider ✔️

Reading Right Now

I'm not sure that I'm sold on my current reading list so this might change entirely come next week.

I watched this Marie Forleo video and was really intrigued by this book. I'm starting to read it, and I think I'll enjoy it, but I'm not positive that I'm in the mood for a business book right now.

I'm also testing the water and reading two book at the same time - gasp!

I'm reading this too and I have to be super honest -  it's awkward to read!

I like to read in bed as a way to wind down for the night and this book is just super clunky to hold. Not exactly a "Lay on your Side and Hold it up to your Face" kind of a book 😆 (but that's completely my own fault for buying a coffee table book as my nightly read 😂.)

The stories are sweet, though, and I am really enjoying the content. Her jewelry is just exquisite! It's akin to pieces I've only see in museums!

Watching Right Now

B and I slowly worked our way through BoJack Horseman and this week we finished the series 😭

I hated this show at first. HATED it!

I need my anti-heros to have at least some redeeming qualities and for the first 7 episodes, BoJack was the most awful of awful human beings horse beings.

Soooo many people said this show was great, though, so I suffered through the first 7 episodes.

By the 8th episode, I was intrigued. By the 10th? I was into it. By the  middle of the 2nd season? I was hooked!

I will say that my hunch all along was that the show would end the way that the penultimate episode ended. So I was pleasantly surprised by the finale.

If you haven't watched it and enjoy anti-heros like Walter White or Don Draper, then this is definitely a show to check out.

Listening to Right Now

My love affair with cozy jazz continues as I still enjoy thisthis, and this.

I'm also still really enjoying Folklore and this one is stuck in my head right now. Am I too cheesy if I say it reminds me of my Hubs? 😍

Enjoying Right Now

Football!

I'm a long-time Carolina Panthers fan and look forward to the football season every Fall. It was so unclear if football would come back this year so I'm really happy that it did.

Now that I live in Chicago, it only seemed right to start following the Bears too.  (Plus, it's nice to follow a team that I can consistently watch on TV lol.)

So it's been fun watching "Da Bears" win 2 games in a row - woot woot! 💙

Thanks for stopping by today 😀
