Hello!

Hello and Happy All Hallows Eve!

Fun Fact: Did you know that in New Jersey the night before Halloween is called Mischief Night? I don't feel like it's as common anymore but back in the 90's and early 00's, Mischief Night was the night when rowdy teens would TP a house, break windows, or steal your law gnome 😂

I remember sometime in the early 90's my Dad was so worried that our home would be vandalized that he asked my brothers and I to draw all over our driveway in soap. That way it would look like our house was already hit but wouldn't do any serious damage 😂 😂 😂.

(I can't think of anyone who would want to vandalize our house back then but I guess you can never be too cautious lol?)

While I get ready to spend the week brunching and enjoying  "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown", let's jump into this week's recap....

What I Bought

So last week I told you how I was #influenced and bought this sweater

Well... I had a really hard time deciding between colors and then they went on extra sale.... so I bought it in two more colors (Okay, I lied..I bought it in three more colors - Red, White, and Tan 😶)

But okay, here's my logic! I only have 1 or 2 very warm sweaters that don't look like a potato sack. We all love a good potato sack sweater but sometimes you want something warm and elevated, you know?

Plus, I trust Krista and she made it clear that these sweaters wash and wear extremely well. So it's a little weird to admit on the internet that I bought 4 of the same sweater lol. Then again, I know I'm not the only person who's ever done this!

I also couldn't resist the 50% Banana Republic sale and scooped up this, this, this, and this. I'm going to be a sweater queen this winter! 😹

Then I started to get a jump on buying new Christmas decor.

The good stuff at Target always sells out early so I got a couple of these and these. My Christmas theme is always a classic red, green, and gold with a touch of vintage so these are going to match perfectly.

I also scooped up these pre-lit garland. I've never purchased from this store before so I hope they're as beautiful as the reviews say they are!

Last Week's Buys - Yay or Nay?

While I waited for my 3 extra sweaters to come in (I know... I'm ridiculous), this one came in and thankfully it's as lovely as it looked. It's soft and warm but with a tailored look. I'm excited to wear it this week!

I also noticed a whole bunch of reviews about the Orly Metropolis collection popped up this week. I won't be giving mine a wear for another month but I found them for sale if you want to check 'em out.

Weekly Seasonal Celebrations

October mini-celebrations included:

Burn a Fall scented candle ✔️
(I continue to burn and savor my all-time favorite Fall candle!)

Weekly wear my October lip shade, Plum ✔️
(The shades I enjoy wearing are too old to link!
Here's one I'm looking at adding to the collection, though.)

Listen to my Halloween Playlist ✔️

Paint a weekly, seasonal mani ✔️

Halloween Baking ✔️
(I made these and they came out really good!)

Enjoy a Pumpkin Spice Latte ✔️

Fall Foliage Drive
(We were just too tired on Sunday to go out again!)

Reading Right Now

I finished The Meaning of Mariah Carey and I LOVED it!

I've gushed over it here and here so I won't spend too much more time on this. But I still can't recommend it enough.

This week, I'm starting this one

I'm very passionate about voting and how important is it for women to exercise this right, especially because of how many women fought tirelessly for our voices to be heard. It just feels right to be reading this on the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment.

Watching Right Now

Another week and B and I are still enjoying our TV go-to's: JeopardyThe Sopranos, and Friends

I also checked another classic film off my list: The Blob

My earliest memory of this film is seeing it referenced in the drive-in movie scenes of Grease 🤣 so I wanted to see if it was as cheesy as it looked!

And to an extent, yes it is cheesy. The technology isn't great and there are clearly drawn in cartoons of  The Blob engulfing the restaurant.

I have to say, though, that the concept of a foreign substance clinging to your body and devouring you? A substance that can't actually be killed and can only be frozen? That's pretty terrifying and could be a very spooky concept if re-done well!

Listening to Right Now

My Halloween playlist is in full force!

I'm still enjoying 80's and 90's throwbacks like ThrillerThis is Halloween, and A Nightmare on My Street alongside classic standards & Jazz with a Halloween twist like Haunted Heart, Witchcraft, and Gloomy Sunday.

Enjoying Right Now

The fantastic artisanal donut scene in Chicago!

I expected to find good hot dogs in Chicago. (I have and they're incredible!

I expected to find great beef sandwiches in Chicago. (Also a big check mark on that.

I expected delicious pizza, steak, and an overall thriving Italian food scene. (Check, check, and check.)

What I didn't expect was the half dozen or so artisanal donut shops that are some of the best donuts I've eaten in my whole life. (And after eating my way through Manhattan donut shops when I lived there, this is truly saying something!)

This week we enjoyed Old Fashioned donuts from Firecakes. O.M.G. - YUM! They're crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They're flavorful but not overpowering. If it's not already on your to-eat bucket list, add an artisanal donut shop to your next Chicago visit.

Thanks for stopping by today 😀
