I'm going to drop a huge cliché right now - how are we already two weeks from Thanksgiving?!?!

I know, I know. Everyone in your office Slack channel, your next door neighbor, and your 6-feet-distanced delivery person is saying the same thing 😆

Truly though, this year feels so long and so short at the same time.

On the one hand, it's been this beautiful luxury in my life to pump the breaks on travel. Living abroad from 2016-2019 was one of the best experiences of my life. I am so thankful for my time in Toronto and I deeply miss living there. Yet, the downside was that I took on 90% of the travel needed to be part of experiences with my family, friends, and my US-based company.

I went into living in Toronto, and even currently living in Chicago, knowing that I signed up for making a lot more effort to be a part of my NJ/NY life. So please know that I'm not looking for a pity party!

I am appreciative that 2020 has given me a chance to slow down, though. It's been really beautiful to take a pause from airplane travel and settle into my Chicago routine.

On the other hand, that new routine and extreme consistency can make each day blur into the next. I read a study that talked about why life feels so much slower during your adolescent and teenage years compared to adult years. We're learning so much and life is changing so fast during our formative years, that the experiences we have at 14 feels dramatically different than ones we have at 17 because of all of the new memories we're making.

In our adult years, many of don't have such extreme differences between how we live our life at 40 compared to how we live at 43. So much of our life remains the same on the day-the-day basis and new memories are harder to make. (That's a super abbreviated sum up. Read more here and here.)

I've really reveled in a slower pace and also appreciate that my very fast-paced life pre-COVID meant that I was so lucky to experience so many new and exciting things. I wouldn't say I've felt bored by any means but I can see how a more routine life can make the years feel much shorter.

So that's my tangent of the week. I can't even tell you if this tangent is a good or bad thing. Maybe it's more of a neutral observation?

Anyway, I will say that I'm PUMPED to eat some turkey and finally get to enjoy Thanksgiving leftovers again! lol

That's enough worrying about the future for one day. Let's look back on last week's recap...

What I Bought

I had some fun during Sephora's semi-annual sale last week! The Hourglass ambient light powders were on my radar for so many years. I decided now was as good a time as any to give some of their products a whirl!

I scooped up this highlight, this blush, and this bronzer. I also splurged and bought their matching brush. It's very expensive but it also has 5 stars and 380 reviews! So I'm excited to see if the quality matches the price tag.

I also bought extremely un-fun stuff this week, like my favorite contact solution and our favorite disposable masks lol.

Last Week's Buys - Yay or Nay?

My picks from China Glaze's Jollywood collection came in and they're GORGEOUS! My all-time favorite Christmas nail polish collection was 2010's 'Tis the Season. (Anyone else miss Scrangie?!)

Jollywood is coming in as a close second with so many beautiful holiday shades, but also wearable shades through winter and into spring! I highly recommend the polishes I scooped up:
ThisThisThisThisThis, and This

I also started to use this lotion from the Bath and Body Works haul I mentioned last week. It's a really nice, soft scent that's a bit cinnamon and a bit sweet. It's not leaving a lasting enough impression on me that I'd re-purchase it next year. Yet, if you're looking for a new scent to try and like cozy scents, it's worth a sniff!

Reading Right Now

I think I need to change books as sad - as that makes me to write.

As much as I want to dig into this one, my personal life is hectic right now and the last thing I'm in the mood for lately is to learn something new after a long day.

So I think it's time to switch to a nice, light and easy fiction and save this one for another month!

Watching Right Now

B and I decided to put a pause on The Sopranos so that we can dig into the new season of Fargo

B's been a loyal fan since Season 1 but this is my first year sitting down and watching with him.
(As opposed to me standing, and peaking around the corner with serious intrigue and fear for all 3 prior seasons lol.)

I also checked another classic film off my list: Shampoo!

It's clearly a film of it's era with all of the gratuitous nudity lol, but I enjoyed the premise and love films that end in a very realistic way. Goldie Hawn is simply stunning and I can understand why Warren Beaty was the heartthrob that he was.

All in all, I'm happy I watched it!

Listening to Right Now

I'm still heavily enjoying my Thanksgiving playlist and new Christmas albums simultaneously!

So far, I highly recommend Tori Kelly's and Leslie Odom Jr's holiday albums. They're both a beautiful mix of soulful, pop, and traditional holiday tunes.

We also need to talk Ariana Grande's new album - I STAN! Each album just gets better and better. It is SO good and I'm excited to really dive into it after the holidays are over.

Enjoying Right Now

Maybe not enjoying but I'm relieved at the end of election season.

I'm very openly a Black Lives Matter rights, LGBTQ+ rights, Women's Rights, and Environmental efforts supporter. Therefore, I very proudly voted for Biden-Harris and I'm very optimistic for what the future will hold in these regards.

Thanks for stopping by today 😀
